Ward 1 — Guelph City Council 2026
Evan Silva — teacher, wilderness guide, and Ward 1 resident — is running to be the voice Ward 1 actually needs on City Council.
Keep Guelph
The Flagship Initiative — #ProtectTheYorklands
The Yorklands are one of the most unique natural spaces in our city. The historical significance of the former reformatory and the ecological significance of the surrounding lands are worth protecting.
The property is currently owned by the Province of Ontario, and its future remains uncertain. There have been calls to develop portions for housing or commercial uses. Evan disagrees.
As councillor, he will advocate for the transfer of the Yorklands to the City of Guelph for use as a public park and green space — with improved access for residents while respecting the site's ecological and historical importance.

Provincially Owned. Future Uncertain.
Protect it now.

Teacher. Wilderness guide. Ward 1 resident.
About Evan
Evan Silva has spent over a decade leading groups through Ontario's backcountry — reading conditions, managing risk, and making decisions that keep people safe. That same instinct for clear-eyed leadership is what Ward 1 needs on City Council.
As a teacher, Evan sees the real stakes of local policy every day — in the pressures on families who can't keep up with rising costs, in the students who deserve a city that invests in their future. He understands what an 8.5% tax increase actually means, because he lives it too.
When Evan discovered that 32 acres of prime Ward 1 land had sat vacant for over a decade, he knew it was time to stop waiting for someone else to act. Ward 1 deserves a councillor who shows up — and that's exactly what he intends to be. As a teacher, Evan sees every day what's at stake for the next generation — the parks they'll grow up in, the housing they'll be able to afford, the city they'll inherit.
